Description
On a foggy fall morning in Waupaca County, I stumbled upon a rural hunting scene that painted the landscape in hues of tradition and natural beauty. Two fields stretched before me, framed by a wooded hillside in the distance. As a landscape photographer, I've witnessed the unique allure of farmland, but this scene held a special charm. It wasn't just about the picturesque landscape; it was about the connection between the land and the revered tradition of fall deer hunting. In Wisconsin, the woodlands along fields, where crops like corn and alfalfa thrive, become coveted locations for hunters. The wooden tree stands, strategically placed along field lines, stand as silent sentinels. I marveled at the commitment of outdoorsmen who constructed these stands, ensuring they weathered and lost the new wood scent by late September. The attention to detail, from selecting the optimal killing zone to elevating the hunter above ground air currents, spoke volumes about the art and science of deer hunting. In Waupaca County, where the deer harvest ranks high, each wooden stand carries the weight of tradition and anticipation. As I captured the scene through my lens, I couldn't help but appreciate the intersection of natural beauty, rural traditions, and the dedication of those who preserve the delicate balance between man and nature.
